In 1811 a bailiwick was built by the British occupation of the Cape at the foot of the Outeniqua Mountains and the resulting city was named after King George III. The picturesque town is famous for its wide, oak-lined streets.

The George Museum houses exhibits of local and national interest and is housed in the "Old Drosty", the old administrative building of this district. In his heyday, George was considered the Metrop media metropolis ’, which is why old printing presses, typewriters and gramophones can mainly be seen. Relics of the mission history of the Cape Province can be found on the upper floor of the museum. Interesting because this part of history has had an impact on this region to this day. George Station, the old train station, has been lovingly restored and until recently was the terminus of the historic Outeniqua Choo-Tjoe Train. An absolute must for lovers of past architecture. Even the ticket office and the benches in the hall were given consideration during the renovation.
The Railway Museum is located not far from the train station. In the old, huge parcel loading hall, trains from almost all epochs of train history have been put together, which will not only interest enthusiasts.
